Can a researcher work from home?

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us into our homes and our work to our kitchen bench, dining table or desk if you’re lucky. Working from home has now and will continue to be standard practice for many industries, including research. Although some industries obviously cannot be conducted from a computer, research is now becoming more and more digital which begs the question; what can a researcher do from home?

1.       Use this time to reflect on how far you have come and what you have accomplished over the years – your work is important and impressive, take a moment to realise the contribution you make to wider society as well as the personal accomplishments you have smashed out of the water.

2.       Relax and Reset - your mindset allowed you to do what you do best, finding your relaxed state of mind will allow you to make consistently informed decisions, slingshotting your research.

3.       Read what others have published – This might give you the perspective needed to add greater insight to your research or add the missing piece to your puzzle.

4.       Take home what you can – I know the entire lab won’t fit your bag, but much can be done with your notes, laptop, and email.

5.       Find the best service providers – send-off inquires for future work; service providers are jostling for your business and will quote you on any future project work. Alternatively, you can contact DNAClick and we will take care of any sequencing work required for your project.
